Here are the photos of the Poekies in the Future Play
With comments by Poekie

The second play presented by the Poekie Peace Club was performed twice on August 14th, 2009. It was full house for both shows, possibly 60 or 70 people came to watch!   We used the stage in the woodshop, which we built eight years ago. It took a lot of preparation, and again we were all quite nervous.

We had to learn to cooperate often, and everyone had to practice important tasks, like opening the trap-door and raising and lowering the curtains.   The cast and crew was twelve kids and about 25 Poekies.

Opening scene: The Poekies live in space in the future. They have the latest technology and are preparing to celebrate the wedding of Boab and Bobina.   Doctor Scientist Daddiade and his son Alliade keep Bobina company in Daddiade's space-lab.

The Poekies whiz around in their space-ships, preparing the floating platform for the party.   Some Poekies take rides with others.

Technical difficulties with the transmission from outer space occur. BB is confused and keeps shaking and buzzing after the connection is restored.   Puddles and Teedlee decide to fight the monster that apparently lives in the forest.

They find a big red button with the words 'Bush Me' written on it. Or is it 'Push Me?'   They jump, but nothing happens. So they gather up all the Poekies.

And everyone jumps at once, but this is a big mistake! Daddiade had made the button in case the Poekies ever wanted to go back in time to life on earth.   He had told them there was a monster in the forest, so that they wouldn't get any ideas.

Bobina is awfully angry with Daddiade. She lost her groom!   The Poekies have landed back in time on earth and are very sad.

A human comes down from the sky.   She doesn't know what Poekies are.

So she puts all the animals in their proper habitat.
Pengu, Licorice and Clydo or very unhappy penguins on the South Pole. It's too cold, there's no sushi.

Bubbles, Puddles, Charcoal, BB, and all other cats and mice are unhappy living in the village and field. The human has locked up Superstitious in a mushroom house.   Teedllee and Annabellemarie find the pond too wet.

Binky, Toodles, and alligators are bothered by the bugs in the jungle.   Leo is so unhappy in the savannah that he wants out of the play and goes to his daddy back in the Poekie box-seats.

Bobina makes Daddiade invent space-wings, so that Alliade can help the Poekies on earth.   Alliade flies on his 'dragon-wings' back in time and reminds Teedlee that he can use his own wings to fly.

Teedlee needs to collect all the Poekies and find the button in the forest It is the button that Daddiade invented to get them to the future many years ago.

The Poekies are all found, Teedlee even braves the cold of the South Pole to summon the penguins. The jungle animals show him the red button in their jungle.

Excited, they all jump on the button, but nothing happens!   They forgot Superstitious under the mushroom, and also Leo, who will only join the play again if his daddy can come along.

When all the Poekies jump, they are send back to the future. During the short intermission to return to the future, I, Poekie, announce a contest.   'How many Poekies has Makenna made?' There were many guesses, and Anna won the slice of pizza with her answer of 140.

Alliade lets us know it's time to continue the play.   The Poekies have all returned safely, and the wedding is finally taking place. Bobina, in her wedding chair, comes down from Daddiade's space-lab.

She lands safely on the platform, where she is joined by Boab.   With the last sounds of the bridal-march, our dearest Poekie-maker lowers the curtain.

This is the floating space platform. Behind it you can see all the Poekies watching from their box-seats.   It was such a warm day that in between the two performances, the cast bathed their feet in a cold water pool. Afterwards we had a pizza-with-fanta-cast party.

Many thanks to everyone who made this play possible: Jade, Daniella, Makenna, Lexi, Ashley, Sasha, Ansel, Sara, India, Natalie, Jacob, Lochlin, Sam and Hannah, Linda, Pavla, Ayla, Nicole, Dave, and all the parents for giving me time with your children. And a very special thanks to Tom for making the button and giving up his woodshop space!
We'll do another one some time this fall or winter.
