Here are the photos of the Poekies For Peace Memorial Day Play
With comments by Poekie

Welcoming the audience to the play presented by the Poekie Peace Club, May 22nd, 2009. It was a full house!   This is a Poekie village. Poekies are happy creatures and love celebrations. They call Memorial Day 'Peace Day.' (We were all quite nervous.)

This is how one of their Peace Day celebrations went:   Singing a happy song, the Poekies parade around town.

The table is set for dinner, and there is music for dancing.   Some Poekies eat and some dance.

This is Poekie Heaven. Poekefie is an omnipotent Goddess. With her Candy Angels, she protects the jewels of the Poekie world. The jewels live in a pool, and if Poekies touch these jewels, they can get lost and become grumpy.   Poekefie tells her angels to celebrate this day and sends them out to play with the jewels in the pool. Singing peaceful songs, the angels play, but this Peace Day one angel loses a jewel in the forest...

Alliade, a happy little Poekie dragon who lives in the forest and likes to collect things, finds the jewel. Singing a song, he carries it back to his lair.   Instead of sleeping inside his lair, he lays on top. He's already lost, now that he has a jewel from Poekefie.

In the meantime back in the village the party is still going. (Whose Woolfie is sitting ON the table?!)
Some Poekies wander off into the forest. They stumble upon Alliade, and take the jewel and some swords.
When the Band of Poekies return to the village, they are grumpy and start a fight. Then they run away with the jewel. (Thank you Woolfie, for remembering your manners.)

Sent by Poekefie, Sergeant Head Angel Teetles and His Assistant Pengu go to the village to warn the Poekies of the danger. They sing a heroic song. (Sorry Teedlee, we will improve our picture-taking next time.)   The villagers decide to abandon their party and find the Band of Poekies. The village is a mess from the party and the fight, and some Poekies are too tired to go.

The Band of Poekies arrives at the gate of Poekie Heaven. They threaten the Candy Angels playing by the jewel-pool. Poekefie demands the jewel back, or else they will be touched by the sleepy spears.   But the villagers, led by Teetles and Pengu arrive on the scene just in time. Alliade has joined them and scouts the scene overhead.

Battle songs are sung by both parties.   The songs are good and get us in the mood to fight.

Well, maybe not our musician.
The battle is fought, the Band of Poekies, touched by the sleepy spears, are laying on the ground. But the villagers cry, because, after all, they are their friends!

Poekefie asks her Candy Angels to fly all the sleeping Poekies up to her. Sergeant Head Angel Teetles is not yet convinced, but all-knowing Poekefie decides the lesson is learned and wakes the Poekies with a kiss.   Poekefie tells all the Poekies that they must never forget to listen to the jewel that lives in their heart. She reminds them that one day they too will play with the jewels in the Poekie Heaven pool.

During the battle the Poekie Flinger flung Candy Angels down from heaven. Poekefie now gives the Flinger to the Poekies and tells them to use it for play, not for battle.   All the Poekies parade back home. Delighted, they sing a song and carry the Poekie Flinger. Their Peace Day is saved and many happy days of Poekie Flinging follow.

Oh yes, we must not forget to take a bow.   The house was full. Kayla made a great film, but we can't show it to you yet.

Poekies, kids and parents, all had a party afterwards.

And Peggy made the popcorn!

Many thanks to everyone who made this play possible: Jade, Natalie, Lexi, Kayla, Ashley, Makenna, Andrew, Jacob, Mia, Nick, Grace, Josh, Phoenix. Daniella, Tatiana, Siena, Oscar, Jordan, Peggy, David, Elisa, Megan, and all the parents for giving me time with your children.
We'll do another one this summer!
