Here are the photos of the Pirates of the Poekiefique Play
With comments by Poekie

A veteran Poekie actress waiting for the play to start.   And a new member who can't wait!

Our drummer guided the action in the play perfectly.   I explain the story: Since unknown times, the Poekies lived happily along their much loved sea, the Poekiefique.

The Poekies fish and farm and live in peace.   But a long time ago some adventurous Poekies took to the sea with their boats, never to return. Everyone forgot about them.

The adventurous Poekies have found a new land, full of riches. They learn the art of champagne making and dress in funny clothes. However, a bad drought comes along, and after a while everyone is starving. The rivers have dried up, and the sea is too salty for fish. All they have left is two nuts, and many barrels of champagne.

White Fang, the wolf, can't stand it anymore and sails away with his mate in search of food. They take the last two nuts and some champagne to survive. When they arrive on the other side of the Poekiefique, they come across a Poekie sleeping in his boat laden with food. He won't wake up so White Fang throws their last nut at him and he falls overboard. The 'pirates' steal all the goodies and sail home.

Honeyton swims home crying, he has lost everything. Xelsior the mayor calms everyone down and suggests they all hope it won't happen again.   White Fang and his mate arrive back home as heroes. Everyone eats and feasts.

They decide to build a big boat that they can all sail on and collect food and goods from the Poekies.   The pirates sail off singing a happy song:
Yo ho, yo ho, apirating we go. We pillage and plunder, we ravage and loot, come on ye pirates, yo ho! We steal and we rob and we don't give a hoot. Drink up ye pirates, yo ho!

The pirates rob every little Poekie boat they see. The poekies are very sad and the mayor decides to talk to Poekefie the Goddess.   Poekefie advices Xelsior to plan a trick instead of raise an army.

The Poekies let the pirates plunder everything in their village, as they hide in the forest.   And they wait for the night, when the pirates are all drunk from their celebrations.

Then they attack the ship and conquer all the pirates.
'What shall we do with the drunken pirates,' says Xelsior.
Teeny Popsy still drunk and forgotten in the crow's nest, sings: 'What shall we do with the drunken pirates, give them more champagne!'

Xelsior sings, 'Put 'm in the dungeon do I say, YES!' And everyone sings, 'Let them sleep for three days!' And, 'Hurray, down with the Pirates!' Everyone is shoved in the dungeon, teeny Popsy too.   The next morning some of the Pirates' hats have fallen off, and the Poekies recognize them to be Poekies too. Xelsior consults the ancient family book and discovers that they are the adventurous Poekies who sailed away a long time ago.

hey decide that if the 'pirate Poekies' come back to their senses, they can come live with them in this wonderful side of their beloved Poekiefique. A big party follows. three days later.   And the cast goes off to a party with pizza and Fanta.

Many thanks to everyone who made this play possible: Indigo, Daniella, Grace, Lizzie, Camille, Jacob, Eli, Lilly, Hannah, Taya, and Ben. Whitney for the photos, and Michelle for the Fanta, and all the parents for giving me time with your children.
We'll do another one this summer!
