• The name 'Poekie' is a name moms in Holland sometimes use for their sweet baby.
• Poekies are made from fleece fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles.
• We started making Poekies almost ten years ago.
• At least 3000 kids have made Poekies.
• By now, in March 2010, we must have made over 8000 Poekies.
• Poekies now live all over the world. In India, Holland, France, Russia, England, Germany. I'm sure I'm forgetting some places.
• A girl named India, who now lives in Australia, makes Poekies with her friends, using the Poekie patterns from the bead room.
• Makenna is the fastest kid-Poekie maker. She can make two Poekies in three hours. She has now more than a 180 Poekies (March 2010).
• Mia has just finished her hundredth Poekie. July 2010
• No kid is yet able to make them as fast as Sophia. Sophia makes a Poekie in 45 minutes.
• Many Poekies live in houses that their owners made in the wood shop. They also have wooden furniture.
• All Poekies love to swim and take baths, but they don't like sea water or swimming pools with chlorine. They need quite some time to dry in the sun or by a heater, because mold is a serious illness.
• When Poekies need 'surgery,' or stitches, we always give them some sleepy medicine. We let them suck on the ball of a pin 'with a taste that they like.' For example, mice always suck on a yellow pin, because it tastes like cheese, and the bunnies get the orange carrot taste. Once they are asleep, we can do the necessary surgery. |
